Contraceptives, both oral pills and condoms, will be available to all families in rural Karnataka at their doorsteps, most likely from April. The Centre rolled out the 'door-to-door contraceptive' programme across all districts of the country under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) to encourage people there to use contraceptives for safe sex.
To successfully implement the programme in Karnataka, the state health department started training Associated Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers. They'll visit every house in rural areas and hand over condoms and other contraceptives. The main aim is to allay the fear of using condoms and ensure people have safe sex and check population growth.
